How do I feed my butterflies?Updated 5 months ago
Once your first butterfly emerges you can place food in the habitat.
The butterfly feeds on nectar with its elongated proboscis. The proboscis acts as a tube through which the butterfly sips its food. The proboscis remains curled up until it is time to eat.
Butterflies love to feed on the nectar of flowers. They also love to feed on slices of oranges, apples and any other type of fruit. And, of course, your butterflies will feed on the sugar water/nectar you will place in their habitat!
To make sugar water/nectar to feed to your butterflies, mix 1tsp (5ml) of sugar with 100ml of water and stir to dissolve. Soak the sugar water into a clean piece of sponge or some folded tissue paper, and sat on a small dish to preserve the furniture underneath the habitat. Never offer the sugar water as a pool of liquid as this will damage the butterflies wings if it falls into the liquid.
